MEALS ON WHEELS

DRIVER'S NEEDED

It takes all types to be a Meals on Wheels driver. It is more than delivering meals to senior citizens in our neighborhood.  Everyday the drivers file into Shepherd’s Center and sit down with a cup of coffee and a snack before they deliver meals to talk about their kids, the day’s events, or trips they are going to take next month. Some drivers bring their young children and they sit down and have a treat before their parents deliver meals. Others rush in from work, quickly say their hellos and are out the door again. You hear the drivers ask about a particular senior on their route: are they home from the hospital; did they get back from visiting their daughter? Sometimes they come back to the Shepherd’s Center because no one answered the door and they are concerned there might be a problem.

So, being a Meals on Wheels driver is more than delivering meals. It’s about building neighborhood, friendships, and watching out for others.

Please, won’t you consider volunteering once week or as needed as a substitute?
